Blue and White? Always a Good Idea.

We love bespoke rugs for so many reasons – but above all, we love that we get to help you celebrate your individual style! Fabulous blogger Katie Grabner recently designed a beautiful bespoke rug celebrating her classic and timeless style. Self proclaimed prep, lover of blue and white, and mother of two has a knack for clean, traditional decorating. To compliment her chinoiserie home accents, Katie chose the “Pagoda” design with our coordinating “Pagoda” monogram style in her signature blue and white! After she received her stunning rug, we sat down with Katie to chat about her experience creating her own bespoke rug and how she celebrates her personal style!

JSG: How would you describe your design style?
KG: I would describe my design style as classic and timeless. I like to find a way to make a room beautiful in simple details that give a pop. I find inspiration by browsing for various pieces for rooms and like to go off of something I find that inspires me. The second place I find my inspiration is through images. It’s always so fun to see how others pair colors and patterns, millwork or decor details that make a room say “wow.” I honestly don’t have any designers I favor. There is an incredible amount of talent out there. I like to scroll through them all and spot out my favorite design elements within each room. My goal with my design style is finding a way to bring the client's vision and style into the room. I love to find a statement pieces for each room to keep things interesting and unique.

JSG: What do you look for when buying for your home?
KG: I very much circle back to classic and timeless, but also finding those statement pieces. I like to think, “Where can I make this room interesting? Is it a certain cut of the headboard? A console table with ming flair?” I’ve also reached a point in my life where I’d rather purchase the “right” pieces for our home and sometimes that means waiting. My taste has matured and now that we are in a new home that is bigger, I am focusing on slowly piecing together each room and taking my time doing so. This way I know I’ll be happy for years to come because decisions were with patience.

JSG: Describe your experience with June St. George!
KG: My experience with June St. George has been a wonderful one! I adore the company’s vision and absolutely love that you can customize a one of a kind heirloom rug for your home. Sometimes the hardest thing I come across is finding the right rug designs and colors to pair in a room. June St. George has really nailed it on the head by offering the ability to hand select your own colors and design. Having the ability to work with June St. George on a custom monogram for your rug is really the icing on the cake!
To be quite honest, I had so many places in our home that this rug would fit perfectly, I had a hard time choosing where it should land! I currently have it by the inside of our side french door leading out to our covered patio. This door easily gets the most traffic in our home and is also the most visible to our main space. I needed a rug here that was welcoming and also shared the same style and color themes as the rest of our open space. It’s right in the center of attention here. It’s also really helpful that it can be easily cleaned too when needed.

JSG: What is your biggest rug buying fear?
KG: This is two fold for me. My biggest fear is definitely quality and color. I have gone through enough rugs to know that our home does best with tufted rugs with dogs. Too many times have I purchased tufted rugs that were thin. Thankfully, June St. George’s rugs have a beautiful pile height. Their rugs are also so high quality and can definitely withstand traffic and can also easily be spot treated - isn’t this everyone’s end goal? Lastly, June St. George sends color samples. This is definitely such a way to add confidence in anyone’s purchase!
